------> back to extras The Wedding of Marie Fredriksson and Mikael Bolyos . Text source: Roxette Fan Club, 1994 ------------------------------------------------------ The wedding, 21 may. 1994 On this year`s Whitsun-weekend, on 21 May, Marie and Micke took their marriage vows in Östra Ljungby. Unlike Per´s wedding where every little detail had been planned long in advance, Marie and Micke had decided very spontaniously to say “I do” only this spring Marie: “We hadn´t planned our marriage for a long time. Originally I was to be on the road with Roxette promoting the album, in May. When these plans were changed we thought, “Well, let´s get married on Whitsom, or else it will never happen”.. Now we are really so happy, and it was such a wonderful day. The sun was shining and everything worked out exactly as we wanted it”. The couple wanted to hold a very traditional and private ceremony without the presence of the press or any curious fans. For that reason they obviously tried to keep the event totally secret from the public. Not before this afternoon and only hours before the exchange of the rings, vica Nils-Erik Gestergaxrd admitted that he would marry one of the most famous couple in the Swedish music business. Earlier that day, several other weddings had already taken place in Östra Ljungby´s church. The night before the great event, the two were in separate place; Marie with her family, and Micke at the “Hotel Continental” in Ängelholm. “ I hope Marie will really show up”, a nervous groom said, reaching the church at the last moment. As he probably dint´t know the way in Östra Ljungby yet he had to stop his car first, to ask a passing photographer for the right direction. Marie´s mother Inez and brother Sven-Arne arrived first, and already about one hundred inhabitants and guests were waiting for the arrival of the bride and the bridegroom. With a delay of approximately 15 minutes, Marie showed up on the back seat of a black Rolls Royce. She wore a traditional and romantic white silk wedding dress with a veil which had been designed especially for her. The church smelled of birch, roses and lilies of the valley. Marie herself had decided that all flowers, except the bunch of bounch of flowers for the bride, should be white. Her bouquet consisted of red roses, which are Marie´s favourite flowers, of course. A choir of pupils from Sundsgarden University in Helsinborg sang sons by Beethoven and Taube, together with canton Rune Lindkvist on the organ. The couple had gotten to know Lindkvist at Per and Asa´s wedding. When the whole church, all inhabitants of Östra Ljungby, were asked to they sing “I denna ljuva sommartid” (In this lovely summer time), Marie and Micke also joined in. Shortly after, the rings were finally exchanged. When the newly married and happy couple left the building, about one hundred people who hadn´t benn able to get a seat inside, tookcare of throwing the rice. Marie and Micke kissed each other on the stairs and got thousands of congratulations. Between 5 and 6 pm, several restaurans in the northwest of Skane had been booked for the marriage dinner, with the aim of keeping the press away. With the destination of the “Gran Hotell Dahlberg” in Mlle, the bride and groom left the churchyard in the Rolls Royce, with those who were invited to join Marie´s and Micke´s wedding party following by bus. The police blocked the street behind them to be sure that nobody was able to follow them when they left Östra Ljungby. Both of them had intended that their celebration would be as private as pissible, and friends from the musicbuiness were missing-even Per! With the exception of Micke´s best friend Roger and his wife, the 40 invnvited guestes included really close relatives. As the weather was great, some of the festivities took place outdoors on the porch of the hotel. Hand in hand, having the romantic sunset at the Kattegart in front of their eyes, Marie and Micke walked out to it on a red carpet. Champagne was offerred, and a string quintette took care of the entertainment. Then the gigantic marriage-menu, which included among other things salmon, duck y potatoes, was served up. Eight cooks needed an unbelievable 14 hours prepare it all. In the evening, a band played live music, but the highlight of the party was and impressive fireworks display at midnight. Afterwards, the couple went up to the wedding suite. Seeing as Roxette are still busy with PR-work, there is no chance for a real honeymoon for Marie and Micke currently. This is something which doesn´t bother Marie that much: “It is like being on vacation just to be in Östra Ljungby for a while”. Of course, also the Fanclub team congratulates both Marie and Micke on their marriage, and wishes the both of them all the best for the future!!! Something that concerns us especially is the obvious question of why Per wasn´t invited to Marie´s wedding when she always claims that he is just like a brother to her, and-alowed to sing at this marriage. Marie: “We wanted to have a family celebration, and one has to make boundaries somewhere”. So you two do not have any disputes? Marie: “No, no, but-and that´s really deplorable-nodaways we have exclusively a working relation; not like earlier, when we meet in private once in a while, but when I return home from a tour, Per is certainly not the first person I invite for a dinner; only a friend which I haven´t seen for a long time”.
